RON ARTEST YANKED OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS..

Well it was only a matter of time.
Artest had his run-ins with the Pacers, and now he is true to form with the Kings.

IN all fairness, he was only retaliating for an elbow HE recieved earlier in the Game one playoff, BUT, you and I know all eyes are always on Artest..just waiting, scratch that, SALIVATING for him to step out of line, (and hopefully the court)to get in trouble.

God knows why Ginobili wasnt fouled out first..but, you can imagine why the refs check Artest FIRST then all other parties thereafter.

So, skip the next Kings game and then go to game three for some REAL action. Should heat up nicely.

ps- Artest received 3 stitches for the elbow Manu dropped on him..it wasnt just a brush or stab...so we should cut Ronnie some slack..

ps- Maybe Ron should have got things evened-up AFTER the game...thoughts?

REGGIE BUSH IN HOT WATER?? (and right before the draft...)

Southern Calif. – In the community of Sweetwater Lake, it was no secret who lived in the house at the corner of Apple Street and Luther Avenue.

That home, residents know, was where Reggie Bush's family lived.

This weekend, the family abruptly packed up and left the residence – less than 24 hours after a sports reporter approached Bush's mother about information linking the property to Michael Michaels, a man who is alleged to have attempted to play a role in moving Bush toward a specific agent.

Days before Bush is expected to be a top pick in the NFL draft, questions about the residence and how his mother and family came to live in the house have prompted USC to refer the matter to the Pacific-10 Conference for an investigation.

NCAA statutes prohibit student-athletes or their families to receive any extra benefits from professional sports agents, marketing companies et al. What it boils down to, is that if they find breach of these rules, it could mean Reggie might be ruled ineligible, and games in which he played could be forfeited. Although this in total sum is unlikely to happen, some of it could go down, and the timing seems ironic--

USC finished 2nd overall last season. Bush, a Heisman Trophy winner elected to skip his senior year and turn pro in January.

Trojans athletic director Mike Garrett said they didnt want to jump to any conclusions and would look into the matter, and they also have the PAC-10 checking it out as well.

Bush's mother has been asked to comment, but declined.

It has been reported that Michaels was planning to start a sports marketing agency with Bush as his key client.

One other interesting note: Michaels – who is reportedly a member of the Sycuan Indian Tribe and works as a business officer for the tribe's corporation – failed to return multiple phone calls and was unavailable when reporters visited his home this weekend.

The tribe has stated that they are not aware of his involvement, and have also stated that any involvement Michaels has in this situation is his personal involvement solely.

One thing is for sure- Reggie has a draft coming and there is a big check coming his way soon-doubtful this episode will have any ill-effects on himself or his family.

The NCAA stated that Kansas "demonstrated a failure to exert a lack of appropriate institutional control" over a six-year stint that led to alot of violations in football and men's and women's basketball.

Besides the allegations, the rulings released Friday largely echoed what the university had reported to the NCAA last Summer. In the self-examination, Kansas had admitted violations in its programs and said it was putting its athletic department on two years' probation.

Perkins stated university officials will meet with the NCAA in August to discuss the violations, after which the NCAA will determine whether additional punishment is needed.

Perkins ordered the internal review shortly after being named athletic director in the Summer of 2003.

Most of the football violations focused around coaching assistants arranging academic help for prospective students, which the NCAA termed "fraud."

Gonzaga forward Adam Morrison is expected to skip his senior year and head for the NBA draft, according to multiple media reports.

Morrison has not commented on the reports, but has scheduled a press conference at Gonzaga for Wednesday.

Spokane television stations and FoxSports.com reported Monday that Morrison had decided to turn pro. All have cited unnamed sources. The Spokesman-Review and The Seattle Times both reported in Tuesday's editions that he would go pro as well, also citing incognito sources.

Gonzaga coach Mark Few did not return several telephone calls from media as well.

Morrison is expected to be a first-round draft choice in the June 28 draft. He has until April 29 to officially opt for the draft.

The West Coast Conference player of the year, Morrison overcame J.J. Redick for the national scoring title.

Morrison became the second Bulldogs player to win the national scoring title, and has been touted as one of the most exciting and up and coming players this season.

Trainer for Giants to Testify on Bonds Steroid use

The head trainer for the San Francisco Giants was ordered to appear before a grand jury investigating whether Bonds lied about his connection to the BALCO scandal, a newspaper reported.

Stan Conte, was subpoenaed to appear in a San Francisco federal courtroom later this month, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday.

The panel has been hearing testimony for more than a month about whether the outfielder purjured himself to a grand jury in 2003 about his ties to BALCO.

According to Bonds previous testimony, Bonds stated that he used a clear substance and a cream given to him by a trainer who later pleaded guilty in a steroid-distribution ring, but Bonds said he didn't know that those products were steroids.

Bonds said that his personal traininer Greg Anderson told him the substances he used were the supplement flaxseed oil and a rubbing balm for arthritis.

The substances Bonds described were ironically similar to the ones known as "the clear" and "the cream," two steroids at the front of the BALCO scandal.

One thing for sure- BB is in some HOT water....not clear, not creme, just plain ol' hot water.

Arizona Diamondbacks minor league arm Angel Rocha was suspended for 100 games Tuesday, the toughest penalty baseball has dropped for a positive steroids test.

Rocha was suspended for 15 games last June 6 too.

Four more players were were additionally yanked for 50 games each for testing positive: Los Angeles Angels pitcher Karl Jelinas, New York Mets pitcher Jorge Reyes, St. Louis outfielder Yonathan Sivira and San Diego pitcher Matthew Varner.
And you thought roids were only good for batting....

The penalty for an initial positive test this year was bumped from 15 games to 50 for players with minor league contracts, and the penalty for a second positive test ticked up from 30 games to 100.

For major leaguers, the punishment was lengthened from 10 days to 50 games -- but any test for major leaguers is treated as a first positive test.

There were 81 total roid suspension busts last baseball season for violations of the minor league drug program, and four more minor league roid-bound pitchers were busted last week.

Bonds is 2-for-12 for a .167 batting average. Not bad for the all time 3rd best home run hitter, coming into a brutal mind bashing rout by media, barr-roid fans etc etc.

Maybe the tone is getting under Barry's skin a bit?

How well can the slugger hit when he feels the pressure of all eyes on him as a cheat, and many of his protections now down and any offense may be launched without so much as a wall or barr-rier.

So, 2 for 12, no HR's just yet, and even though, the Giants are winning.

And bad news for the fans of Barr-roid: Bonds "tweaked" his troublesome right knee -- which had 3 surgeries last year -- during his walk leading off the second inning, when he jammed his plant foot in the dirt.

Barr-roid can rest at home..many homers will leave him alone since they want the hometown best to get their record, and they are backing off where others are lobbing hypos and other items at the giant cranial slugger.

You know that everything from syringes to slurs will be hurled at Bonds this season, but not in San Francisco .

The San Francisco Giants' home opener was part circus, part baseball game. News crews descended on the ballpark, all cameras skewed on the man who may someday become baseball's all-time homerun king, asterisk or not.

If that day comes, Major League Baseball, and San Fran Norcalers can only hope Bonds sets the record by sailing a shot into McCovey Cove. He'll be showered with cheers at home, jeered everywhere else.

While the rest of baseball considers the asterisk, Bonds is like kryptonite in the City by the Bay. Whatever he did, whatever he took, all is forgiven, all is forgotten in Barry's house.

The Bonds supporters deflect criticism of their hero in a variety of ways. Bonds is being unfairly subjected, they say. A fan tossed a syringe at Giants slugger Barry Bonds as he left the field between innings of Monday's game against the Padres. Curiously, Bonds swore after the game that he believed the syringe was just a large pen that administered clear creme.

Huh?

Man this season is going to be great!
We have Bonds, who is going to play the denial card all season long until the heat becomes unbearable, then...what?

Anyone want to wager how this one is going to unfold?

SPORTSTRASH- 3/22/06 Prince is SUED by UTAH JAZZ BOOZER

$70,000 a month rent, and Prince paints the landlords' house purple, adds some hair salon chairs to the pad and calls it home. ..............huh?

The ever-eccentric Grammy-winning Rock and Roller has been sued by Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer for allegedly purple-pimping out Boozer's West Hollywood home, which the diminutive rock star is renting for a whopping $70,000 a month.

Boozer originally filed a complaint against the Purple Rain singer in January, alleging him to be a rather unusual tenant, violating the terms of his eight-month lease via a series of self-promotional home improvements...mostly purple-related.

According to the lawsuit, which is posted on the Smoking Gun Website, Boozer claimes Prince did an unauthorized extreme makeover to the 10-bedroom, 11-bath property, including "painting the exterior of the with purple striping, 'Prince symbol,' and numbers 3121."

The latter digits represent the name of Prince's latest album, which hit stores Tuesday...coincidence? I think not. Hopefully all this pub will cover his rent for a few months. At 70k, P-dub is gonna need all the help he can get.

Interior renovations included removing carpet in master bedroom and installing purple prince monogrammed carpet, per the suit, as well as the more exotic installation of plumbing, piping and excavation of "a large hole" for the presumed purpose of a private beauty salon.

Two months prior to filing the suit against his superstar tenant, Utah Boozer' issued a "three-day notice to cure or quit" his changes, citing the litany of repair violations. At the time, Prince's lawyers denied the alteration allegations, and claimed that the NBA landlord had accepted their purple-centric client's January and February rent "without objection." Believe it? Nah. Neither do we.

In other words: On the outside chance Prince had broken his rental contract, they couldn't kick him off the property until March. They needed the pad for the promo, THEN you can boot purple boots to the curb.

Boozer has since dropped the lawsuit, after successfully petitioning for a dismissal of his claims in mid-February. However, as the courts granted the dismissal "without prejudice," Boozer will still be able to refile the suit under the same claims if Prince starts making illicit trips to Sherwin Williams.

As it stands, the "Little Red Corvette" singer is contracted to remain in the Hollywood home until his lease runs out May 31. That is, should the weather suit his whimsical needs. Pretty little thing he is, now..

Meanwhile, Prince did manage to pry himself away from his tool-time earlier this week.

The Purple One surprised throngs of diehards with a performance at the Hollywood Tower Records Tuesday. He took the stage at midnight as the store began selling copies of 3121 to some 500 awaiting (Freaks) fans. Lets see: Hmm 500 X 15 =...not enough!!! He will need a bit more than that to get rent paid.

"It was an impromptu decision," Serena Gallagher, the publicist for Prince's label, Universal Motown Records, told the Associated Press. "He lives in L.A." Uh yeah. Sounds just like him. Crazy guy.

Soriano refuses to play outfield for Wash Nationals

VIERA, Fla. -- Alfonso Soriano refused to play the outfield for the Nationals in what was supposed to be his spring debut Monday eve, and manager Jim Bowden said his biggest acquisition could go on the disqualified list if he doesn't agree to play outfield this week.

"The player refused to take the field, which we believe is a violation of his contract," Bowden said.

Soriano, an All-Star second baseman, was listed as leadoff and playing left field for the Nationals' clubhouse before Monday night's 11-5 loss to the LA Dodgers.

But when the Nationals took the field in the top of the first, Soriano wasn't out there.

Confused players and fans looked toward the Nationals dugout. The only person to come out, however, was Nationals manager Frank Robinson.

He approached the plate umpire and made a switch, moving Ryan Church from center field to left and putting Brandon Watson in center to replace Soriano.

"I was sitting out there ready to warm up, but nobody was out there, and the next thing I see Watty running out there, so I kind of figured what happened," Church said.

When Soriano first reported to camp, the question of whether he would accept the switch was left open until his return from the World Baseball Classic.

Soriano played for the Dominican team, which was eliminated in the tournament semifinals Saturday. He rejoined the Nationals on Monday and worked out with the players in the afternoon, but he refused to speak to reporters.

Soriano has lost his arbitration case this winter and is due to be paid $10 million this season, still a huge record for the highest salary given in arbitration.

Soriano was told if they get to Thursday, and he refuses to play left field, the Nationals will request that the commissioner's office place him on the disqualified list, at that time -- no pay, no service time, according to Bowden.

Robinson met privately with Soriano for before the game Monday to explain the team's position.

Robinson said the meeting with Soriano was civil, but the Soriano's position was clear.

Trading Soriano, becomes more likely now...with less than two weeks remaining before the season begins.

In my opinion, Soriano is an A-hole. Anyone with the opportunity to play ball should shut up and take the field, and thank whoever they need to thank for the opportunity. It is so sad that players such as this forget where they come from, the public damage from something like this which is likely to occur and more.
All pro ball players at one time had to respect the game prior to gettting to the show, and somewhere between making it and now, alot of them forget the priveledge, and it shows their true lack of character, and mere shadow of manhood.

What a loser. Trade him and get a AAA ball player who will play his freakin' heart out for you, I say.

What do old, forgotten sports stars do when they retire?
Answer: They eat, get fat, and then grab any ANY straw of stardom or attention, thats what.
Jerry Rice hasnt had time to get fat just yet, as he is not the typical star gone forgotten (just yet)..and his on screen dancing is something we can all do without (except a few lonely housewives..like mine), but I digress;

Thirty years ago, Anthony Davis was quite the jock: 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, a two-time All-America tailback, and four-time national champion at USC. Today, in his early 50s, he is nearly 300 pounds, bereft with pain and afflicted with sleep apnea, a condition that qutie possibly may have played a part in NFL's Reggie White's death.

SPORTSTRASH 3/18/06 -Fat David Wells cant shut his mouth..

David Wells is a 42 y/o loser.

IF we all had game like he has(d), maybe we would shut our mouths and be happy for any crumbs that might falleth off the Boston Red Sox table,....but not Wells.

It goes without saying that an aging, fat pitcher with a bum knee might benefit from 2-3 extra weeks of rest. The Red sox rotation is short due to a limited pre season schedule, and since Fatty isnt scheduled to toss much until afterwards, he is whining and threatening that he might recind his contract.

And even by Wells' standards (if he has them), the trade-demand then threat strategy is immature and plain obnoxious. (We still don't get how a player who happily signs a contract can then demand a trade.) Throughout his spotted career Wells has lumbered back and forth over the line between pudgy out of shape flake and foul mouthed wannabe.

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State cut basketball coach Wayne Morgan and staff Friday in the light of a reported recruiting scam.

ISU Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said during a news conference that he met Thursday evening with school president Gregory Geoffroy and with Coach Morgan.

"The fact that we didn't make the NCAA tournament or the NIT contributed to this decision, but I want to emphasize it clearly is not the only reason for making this decision," he had said.

Morgan's firing came two days after a report surfaced that a number of college basketball programs may have steered more than $100,000 to a California business run by a junior college coach.

A CBS Sportsline.com story Wednesday alleged that D1 Scheduling, a company founded by Los Angeles Community College coach Mike Miller, might have been delivering LACC players to Division I schools, including Iowa State, which paid the company to arrange games.

Pollard said that he had held discussions with Geoffroy about whether to make a change in the program before Wednesday, but the decision to cut Morgan wasn't made until after the story hit.

"Although the events of this week concerning basketball scheduling is not the reason we are making this change, the timing of that situation and the negative national publicity that Iowa State has received as a result ... has contributed to the timing of our decision," Pollard recently quipped.

The report said D1 Scheduling turned a profit by taking a significant cut of the cash paid by schools looking for opponents. Schools on the receiving end made far less cash than they would have if the games were made without a matchmaker.

According to the report, Iowa State, along with Iona, Louisiana Tech, Tennessee State, Howard and others, have used D1 Scheduling to arrange matchups with each other. Those schools all have signed players from LACC. Most Division I schools do not use outside assistance when scheduling games.

CBS Sportsline.com reported that Iowa State appeared to be the focus of the operation, and that under Morgan, ISU used D1 Scheduling to arrange guarantee games only when the other school also sought LACC players.

"Everything we did was legal," Morgan said in a telephone interview on Friday. "I did not do ..... wrong."

Morgan has a career record of 146-123 in nine seasons as a college coach. He spent six seasons as the coach at Long Beach State and 12 seasons as an assistant under Jim Boeheim at Syracuse.

" I didn't expect to be terminated," Morgan said. "When was the last time you heard someone get to the NIT final four in his first year, the second round of the NCAA tournament his second year, (average) 18 wins a year and get terminated?"

Morgan replaced Larry Eustachy in 2003, and went 55-39 in three seasons as Iowa State's coach.

He spent one season as an assistant under Eustachy, who resigned after the publication of photographs showing him partying with college students on Big 12 road trips.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Ron Artest was booed loudly and shot very poorly in his return to Indiana as the Pacers edged out the Sacramento Kings 98-93 on Friday eve.

Artest was in Indianapolis for the first time since his trade to the Kings for Peja Stojakovic seven weeks ago. Artest scored 18 points, but shot 6-for-22 from the field..not exactly a great homecoming.

He was booed during pregame introductions and that continued on throughout the evening.
The fans reserved their loudest cheers for Stojakovic, who scored 20 to boost the Pacers over the Kings' five-game streak.

Nah..us Americans have WAY too much to do that we can relate to and connect with.

CESANA, Italy - Brazil have sent bobsledder Armando dos Santos home from the Winter Olympics after he failed a test for the banned substance nandrolone -- the first athlete to leave the Games doing the dope dance.

"The Brazilian Olympic Committee conducted tests in Brazil prior to the Games and he (Dos Santos) was found positive for nandrolone," Brazilian ice sports team leader Eric Maleson said on Tuesday.

"It's very unfortunate because the policy of the Brazilian Olympic Committee is zero tolerance," he added. That means you dope, olympics? NOPE.

"As soon as we found out, he was sent home. Today he's at the airport, going back to Brazil, and he's not going to participate in the Olympics," Maleson said.
The bobsledder was upset but accepted the news, the Brazilian team said.

"Armando received the news with serenity," the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo quoted the head of the Brazilian delegation in Turin, Edson Menezes, as saying. Serenity, by the way, is not a Turin stripper..just in case you were curious.

ANABOLIC STEROID

"He took part in a meeting with us, spoke to the team and then went to his room. He's upset. It is difficult for all of us as it is the first time that this has happened."

Nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list. Steroids are used to increase muscle mass and strength, in case you just joined us at planet earth and didnt already know this..

The 24-year-old tested positive last month, the Brazilian Olympic Committee said on its website.

Dos Santos, from Sao Paulo, had been due to compete in the four-man bobsleigh starting on February 24.

TURIN, Italy (AFP) - Canada and the United States were locked in a war of words as both teams completed their Winter Olympics women's ice hockey preliminary round programme.

Defending champions Canada conceded their first goal of the tournament but still whacked Sweden 8-1 while the United States rallied to beat Finland 7-3 to set themselves on course for another Olympic clash.

Canada finished the opening round with a 3-0 winning record and 36-1 scoring record but their strategy invited nothing but scorn from the United States.

American defenceman Angela Ruggiero blasted the Canadians saying they were being selfish by blowing out the other teams.

Canada beat Italy 16-0 and Russia 12-0 in the first two games.

"I'm upset that Canada has been running up the score, especially against the host nation," Ruggiero told Sports Illustrated.

"There was no need for that. They're trying to pad their stats. Canada is running up the score for whatever reasons - personal, short-term."

But, Canadian forward Danielle Goyette denied that they were going for personal glory.

"One of the tiebreakers is goals scored and we know that," said Goyette.

"We are just playing well and getting better as the tournament goes on. We are in the Olympics and we have to give it our best."

Sounds like its game-on for the US and Canada...

SPORTSTRASH 2/13/06 Oklahoma State Coach Sutton DUI probe

Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton may have coached his last game, a 35-year career ending because of a traffic accident in which he was injured and cited for driving under the influence.

Eddie Sutton said in a statement released by the university that he nearly took a leave after a Feb. 4 trip to Kansas State because of back pain that was "making it very difficult to coach."

According to police: "Witnesses described Sutton's sports utility vehicle as driving dangerously, forcing cars to move out of the way before he hit another SUV from behind, according to police reports released Monday."

Currently in the news waves today is the following statement: " A person with knowledge of the investigation confirmed the wiretap was recorded last Monday, the day Gretzky's lawyer said New Jersey detectives showed up at the Phoenix coach's doorstep looking to speak to his wife."

So that being said, maybe Waynes wife was gambling, without his knowledge?

When Wayne G skated, he knew about timing. That pause prior to a quick jaunt diagonally across the ice to hit an open slot, or the quick flick pass to setup an open net shot..either way, the Great One had it down pat.

Now, in February 2006, timing is crucial again, but for different reasons.
You see, Feds are examining WG's claim that he had no prior knowledge about the gambling scheme with his wife and Tocchet, until last Monday when he had the first conversation. When the boys came knocking, WG was reportedly very surprised, and they served papers on Janet, his wife.

Specific information on when a wiretap convo was recorded appears to support Wayne Gretzky's claim that he had no prior knowledge of an illegal gambling ring involving his wife and Phoenix Coyotes assistant coach.

A New Jersey state police wiretapped conversation of Gretzky asking Tocchet how Gretzky's wife, Janet Jones, could avoid being named as a participant in the gambling ring happened last Monday -- the day after Jones allegedly won cash money betting on the Super Bowl, sources told the press.

This story will get better and better, you can BET on it.

Charges have been dropped against a Marshall running back accused of swiping a PlayStation 2 video game system.

Ahmad Bradshaw, Marshall's leading rusher in 2005, was facing a felony burglary charge and a petit larceny charge; however, prosecution dropped both charges Thursday.

Prosecutor Christopher Chiles said the prosecution wanted to treat Bradshaw the same as any college student who committed a stupid act and did not want to jeopardize his future.

Surveillance cameras caught him entering King's dormitory room, but agreed Thursday to drop the charges.

Bradshaw was reportedly seen on surveillance footage exiting the same room with a PlayStation 2. (OOPS)

Chiles said that an unspecified misdemeanor charge may be filed soon.

Wow- hard to believe. A sports athelete doing something that is ILLEGAL. You mean you cant just pop in and grab someone elses stuff? Huh. I thought you could, I mean if you are a running back. Running backs have special priveledges, right?

Really weird. Lets keep on eye on this and see if this is jsut a fluke, or if other sports atheletes think they have special priveleges and might be above the law.. hmmmm.

Former Ohio State star Clarett indicted in robbery

February 10, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Ohio State star tailback Maurice Clarett was indicted Friday on charges of robbery and carrying a concealed weapon, and just goes to show you everyone who had a shot at stardom always does well after the fact....or maybe not.

Clarett is accused of showing a handgun and demanding property from a man and a woman early Jan. 1.

No one was injured, and only minor property was taken, police said.

Clarett was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and four lesser counts.

Clarett denied the charges issued by his lawyer, William Settina.

"Mr. Clarett intends to fight this indictment with the same vigor and resolve he displayed in taking OSU to a national championship," Settina said in the statement.

How fitting. He's gonna train, he's gonna break out tape and study, he's gonna kick some ass. Oh, wait a minute. He's not playing a sport. He's not doing something inconsequential on the real scheme of life..no, he's going to court to prove his innocence or he's gonna do time. That is a bit more serious and not really related to carrying a pigskin across some bluegrass, my friend. Comparing this to something as futile as a college football game is pretty lame.

What happened to respecting laws, working for a buck, and with prominence and contacts generated from a high level sports postion, making something of it? This guy undoubtedly had an up on most of us, and went weak and did this on someone.

I just dont get it. People with a golden spoon..toss it in the gutter and then drop an aggravated assault. For what? A cell phone? God given talent and still a loser (allegedly).

So the Greatone, quite possibly has let us down..

The ONE who we all held to such high esteem, the one who was not like traditional sports legends...Jordan, Magic, Dimaggio...they all had/have HUUUUUUUUUGE egos..and for the most part, were/are innaccessible.
Not Wayne. He did interviews galore, gave time with little folk as well as the big ones.

But now, he seems to be quilty. Maybe unfairly so at this point, but rumor has it they have tape with him talking about the betting, even though he says he has nothing to do with all this..

Tragedy, thats what it is. Pure tragedy. He was clean, or so we thought. Now, betting with an outfit that reportedly had organized crime tied in...what is that going to do for Hockey? How about the Coyotes? How about the Canadian Olympic team Wayne was to aide??
Our guess is that all that is now a big dump. Gary Betman (nice name with relation to this story, huh?) already has his own investigation ongoing and will be sure to protect hockey as best as he can, but fallout is sure to scatter wide and deep.
